Skin Cancer Prevention: Self Exams

Skin cancer prevention starts at home.

The first line of defense against skin cancer starts with you. A simple home- inspection ritual can help insure that skin cancer is diagnosed in its earliest, most treatable stage. Early identification, diagnosis and treatment is the best medicine for a positive, healthy outcome.

Examine your skin on a regular basis for signs of skin cancer and consult a dermatologist if you notice anything suspicious. The American Academy of Dermatology web site has outlined the self-examination procedures to follow, including how to examine your skin and what signs to look for.
